Friending memes are often a teensy bit awkward because you're never sure if you want to friend someone based on one short questionnaire, especially if the person has a largely locked-down journal where you can't get a good feeling for what they normally post. Having a month-long challenge will give people a chance to interact more than once and hopefully have a few conversations here and there.
